How do you take off the gear knob on a Honda CR-V?

On floor-shift models the Haynes Manual states "unscrew the knob." On column shift models there is no instruction. I don not believe that there is a way toremove the knob from column shift since the electronics embedded in to enable or disable the overdrive function are factory built and cannot be dis-assembled and must be replaced as one unit.
