Why does the government require certain information to be put on food labels?

well if you ask me the answer to dis question is quite difficult. The question asks why do federal government require food labeling.... well, the federal government require food labels to let you know what you are eating and the ingredients that are in your food if you pay close attention you would know that......................!@!@
