What insect looks like a huge black cockroach with long beady feelers?

My mom calls them mosquito hawks. Actually, they're male mosquitos. The normal-sized ones are females. No they are not male mosquitoes. They are called crane flies and they are harmless to humans. Their larvae live in the grass.
