Can snails go underwater

Absolutely!

Snails have been found to be incredibly good mimics, better than Minah birds in fact.

The Greater Shelled Blue Throat snail of the upper Himalayas has been confused with a Sperm whale. When they remove their shell to carry out their ablutions they have also been mistaken for the Yeti.
