Why are doom paintings not painted today?

Doom paintings, which depicted scenes of the Last Judgment and the torments of hell, were popular in medieval and early Renaissance Europe, primarily serving to convey religious messages and moral warnings. Today, the decline in religious authority and the rise of secularism have diminished the relevance of such themes in contemporary art. Additionally, modern art movements prioritize individual expression and diverse subject matter, moving away from didactic imagery. As a result, doom paintings are largely viewed as historical artifacts rather than contemporary artistic expressions.
