Depending on the variety of lobelia that you're growing -- there are about 90 varieties -- deadheading generally promotes a neater appearance, although it is not necessary.

Lobelia that you're growing in containers, or in your garden will grow in most any light condition, but prefer moist soil. If you apply fertilizer every month or so, your plants will flower from mid-summer until the first frost.
