Writing a poem about a girl is all in the specifics. Many girls won't even care if it is a good poem, as long as you are very specific about that girl, and what you like about her. Poems don't have to rhyme or be a certain form, but remember... if the poem is for a girl, then you need to consider your audience. What kind of poem would she like? If she is an English Major, you might need to look up some poetic forms to impress her. More likely though, even then, she will only care about what you say about her. So... how do you get those specifics? Well, what do you admire about the girl? Do you admire her intelligence? Her sense of humor? Her long hair? Her full lips? Throw in some adjectives... be very specific about what you like, and *don't* get it wrong. ... If you admire her blue eyes and they are actually green, you might start a fight rather than inspiring adoration. It doesn't have to be a feature, but it could also express what you feel about her... but still specifics are important. No girl wants to think that you wrote a poem that could apply to another girl equally. :) If you don't know any poetic forms, a Haiku is a good place to start. Haikus have the following form: 5 syllables 7 syllables 5 syllables So, try fitting what you like about the girl into that format. Here is an example "girl" Haiku: Zandra--my reason: Iget up in the morning To watch you sleeping You will want to use the name of the appropriate girl, of course... Zandra is just a name I made up for the poem... but it shows how specific you can be.Longer poemsare also good if you want to pour on the admiration... but short can be powerful as well. If you want to write a longer or more intricate poem, I suggest looking up some published poems that you admire and trying to mimic their style until you find one of your own. A good site to look for examples is here: http://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/p180-list.html. It has a lot of different poets, and they are all professionals, so you won't get any really, really bad examples. :)
