Gophers can dig extensive tunnel systems, typically reaching depths of 2 to 3 feet (about 0.6 to 0.9 meters) below the surface. However, in some cases, their tunnels can extend even deeper, up to 6 feet (approximately 1.8 meters). The length of their tunneling can span several hundred feet, allowing them to create a complex network for foraging and nesting.
