What happened to misty in pokemon?

Misty was going to continue with ash and brock, however she ended up getting a call from her sisters at the Cerulean Gym and said that they were going on world tour so she had to come back and run the gym while they were gone. So she went back, However, you see her once or twice in the other seasons (not exactly sure which one)
