The Blue tongued lizard uses its blue tongue as a defence mechanism. When threatened, it faces its attacker, flattens its body and opens its jaws wide, hissing loudly, and exposing its blue tongue against its pink mouth. This display is often enough to ward off would-be predators such as dogs.
