What year was the Hector dolphin discovered?

Hector's dolphin was discovered sometime prior to the year 1881 by James Hector, a Scottish geologist, surgeon, and naturalist. The dolphin was officially named in 1881 by a Belgian zoologist by the name of Pierre-Joseph van Beneden.
