How do i obtain a copy of my child's birth certificate in Maine?

You can order it from the Department of Health, Vital Records Unit. They provide walk-in services at 244 Water Street in Augusta. You can also order by mail. Payment is by check or money order. The fee for a certified copy is $15.00. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment to:

You can also order online with a credit card through an independent company, VitalChek that Maine has partnered with. They will charge additional fees.

You can also order it from the municipal clerk's office in which the birth occurred.

You will need to provide photo ID. Identification requirements apply whether the records are requested in person or by mail.
