Types of Caseworker Jobs

A caseworker has the job of helping men and women deal with specific problems. These problems may include family issues or disability issues. There are different types of caseworkers. Each type of caseworker has to perform different duties than the other type of caseworker. Caseworkers, otherwise known as social workers, often work at healthcare facilities, government agencies, social service agencies and schools.

A child and family caseworker often works for large companies, social service agencies and government agencies. A child and family caseworker has the job of advising parents on the well-being of the family and the well-being of the child in question. In addition, child caseworkers may help different foster care children adjust to foster care. They may also work on different adoption cases. Some family caseworkers specialize in working with senior citizens while other child and family caseworkers work on employee assistance programs. Caseworkers who work on employee assistance programs often have to help employees with personal problems that may be affecting work.

School caseworkers work as an intermediary between a student's family and the school system. The duties of a school caseworker often include helping students with personal problems and working to improve the schoolwork of a student. School caseworkers may also have to work on various social problems. This may include working with a family when a student misses too many school days. School caseworkers also work with teachers through teacher workshops. The school caseworker may provide advice to teachers about different classroom problems or about the behavior issues of different students.

Substance abuse and mental health caseworkers are normally employed at substance abuse treatment centers, hospitals and mental health treatment centers. A substance abuse caseworker or mental health caseworker's duties include providing therapy to patients who need it. In addition, the caseworker will help various patients deal with life outside of the treatment center. Some patients have a hard time getting used to life after they have conquered a drug relapse or after they have left a treatment center.
