There are a number of reasons why a patient might choose to violate the orders of his or her physician. Some treatments are expensive, painful, or otherwise unpleasant, and a patient may feel that it just isn't worth it. Some terminally ill patients believe that since they are going to die anyway, there is no need to prolong the process with painful treatments. There are also patients who simply do not agree that they received the correct diagnosis or prescription. And in other cases, patients can have religious objections to medicine. The Jehovah's Witness religion prohibits blood transfusion.
