What are some pros and cons of Americanization?

Social

pro- spred of culture and ways of life

cons- we take away their sense of culture

pro- people getto communicate with others form around the globe

con- traditonal clothing is replaced with jeans and tank tops

pro- entertainment

con- most media is focuced on the celeberties.

Economic

pro- people are exposed to economic ideas which can improve their lives, such as mass production and high technologies. Their home areas are frequently invested in by the US.

con- US interests and corporations take advantage of the people and the resources for profit, which is exported to the US

Political

Pro- Nations allied with the US and culturally similar to us tend to be pushed toward democracy and, generally, away from totalitarianism

Con- That democracy only extends as far as it does not interfere with US foreign policy, and can be overturned or ignored by US foreign policy as we see fit.

Military

Pro- Massive US hardware support and purchase opportunities of the best military tech on the planet

Con- US bases and military actions are only ostensibly optional...the country truly has no choice in the matter.
