the 58 was made from 1958 to 1963 and approx 271,000 were made... divide the 271,000 by the amount of years made and you can get an approximate date of mfg. tim sports lee6@bellsouth.net I went to the library and looked up the value of the 58 Sportsman in three different books, the latest version 1998. They all basicly gave the breakdown as follows:Mint-300.00 Very good:250.00 Good:200.00 Fair:150.00. One book expressed a 5% increase in value for a magnum. They didn't differ on the year or production date.Needless to say I was disappointed. The value depends upon several things. First of all the NRA rated condition, and then the grade of the shotgun. Remington offered about eight different grades in this shotgun. BW, you cannot tell the date of mfg by dividing the total produced by the number of years of manufacture. They made fewer the first couple of years and final year, than they did in 59 and 60 if I remember correctly. Your shotgun is worth somewhere between $200.00 and $700.00 in all likelihood, depending upon the above two main factors.
