The fastest land animal is the cheetah which has a recorded speed of 109.4-120.7 km/h (68.0-75.0 mph).

However most birds fly (rather than run!) and many move faster than the cheetah. The fastest bird is the peregrine falcon and with a stoop speed of 389 km/h (242 mph) makes this bird fastest member of the animal kingdom.

The fastest ground bird (flightless runner) is the Ostrich which can run at 96.6.km/h (60 mph).
