How do you change the stop tail light on a BMW R1100RT?

Remove passenger seat, tool kit from the storage area under the tail section. There are 2 black knobs approx. 1" diameter that hold the taillight into the tailsection. Unscrew both knobs and remove them. wiggle the taillight and it will fall out and dangle by taillight wiring. this will expose the brake, tail and turn signal bulbs. replacing all the bulbs at once is smart so you wont have to worry about them in the future. try to use the BMW bulbs as they have the correct resistance. in a pinch, the auto ones will work but the flashers may operate slower/faster than before. do not put a larger bulb in the taillight than it calls for. if you do, the larger bulb will melt the taillight lens. install the taillight into the holes. don't pinch the wiring and be sure the 2 threaded studs go all the way in. tighten the 2 knobs tightly! use a flashlight if needed to install them.
