Do your kinky tresses cause stress? Are your cork-screw curls parched and brittle? Is ‘poof-head’ a fitting nick name for you? Well lay your flat iron and frustration aside, and read further on how to transform your hard- to- tame locks into a glossy, well behaved ‘do.
- Do not was your hair every day. Rather, skip a day or two. Your hair type can afford it since frequent washing will just dry it out.
- When you do wash your hair, skip the shampoo. Nope, you did not read incorrectly. This is not a joke. Instead, cleanse your hair and scalp with conditioner. Believe it or not, conditioners contain ingredients that are actually cleansing agents. So fear not- wash your curls as you normally would, but jus swap the hair-stripping ‘poo for an ultra-rich moisturizing conditiner for a de-frizzed ‘do. Tip: do not waste your cash using expensive high-end brands since you’ll be using a liberal amount to ensure a thorough cleanse. A cheap brand such as Suave will do the trick.
- Post-shampping, er rather, conditioning/cleansing, spritz your tresses with a leave-in conditioner such as Infusium 23 Frizzologie Conditioner Leave-In Treatment ($5.99).
- Post- leave-in conditioning, put some regular conditioner on your hair- but not the same cheaper brand you used for the cleansing process in step 2. Instead, opt for a higher quality conditioner such as Herbal Essences Totally Twisted or None of Your Frizzness ($4.99) or TRESemme Moisture Rich Conditioner ($5.99). This step may sound a little bizarre to you, but it really does work. You don’t need to worry about the product sitting in your hair, leaving a white residue behind- it will soon “disappear” and your curls (especially if your hair is very dry) will suck it right up like sponge. Thus, your hair will get double conditioning and a heck of a lot less frizz.
- This step is optional: to hold your newly tamed, glossy tresses in place- especially during the heat and humidity- add a quarter size drop of gel throughout your hair. Try Sebastian Laminates Sheer Curl Weightless Shine Curling Gel ($15.00).
With these easy tricks, you’ll soon abandon your blow-dryer, flat iron and shampoo and embrace your spirals. Hello luscious locks, good-bye frizz.
