What does it mean I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands you need to be able to throw something back?

I THINK maybe it means that you shouldn't go through Life always being a Taker or Receiver, but that you should also Give Back. (but of course, you'd have to ask Maya Angelou for the true answer)
