What did Alexander Melville Bell do?

Alexander M Bell was a teacher and researcher of physiological phonetics. He also authored many works on orthoepy (the correct use of Words) and elocution (pronunciation/formal speaking). He was also the father of Alexander G Bell who invented the first telephone.
