The Nile's yearly flood was important as when it flooded it not only watered crops, it also left behind a rich soil called silt behind. If the Nile flooded and there was too much water, the crops were distroyed. If there was not enough water, there was a famine and many would die. There had to be the correct amount of water for the Egyptians to grow crops to survive.
