I have an 85 700 maxim so I should think they are about the same. It's not hard as long as your exhaust is not in the way, I can't remember I change the standard exhaust a long time ago. The drain bung should be between the second and third down pipe on the underside of the engine, loosen anticlock and drain oil into something with at least 1-gallon capacity. The filter (on mine anyway) sticks out from the front of the engine at the bottom again between the two middle down pipes, as far as I remember a 10mm(3/8) socket or spanner will take the casing of to allow you to change it, well worth doing at the same time as the oil (no point putting fresh oil through a dirty filter). So when you're new filter is on and your drain bung back in put the bike on the centerstand on level ground and fill to the mark with fresh oil. Then start the bike and allow it to idle for a few minutes. Stop bike. Check oil level after 10 mins or so and top up to the level again as your filter should now be filled also and will leave a little less in the sump. If its no different don't worry just check it again after you have been for a ride just remember to give the oil time to settle back into the sump. The best time to check oil is before you start the bike from cold
