What is the cantilevered section of a deck?

under the deck there will be a supporting beam, anything hanging out beyond this beam is the cantilever.

some decks are fully cantilevered (they are attached to floor joists in the house and have no support posts/beams under them). these are usually no more than 4 feet long.
