Why is your gti smoking?

Blue smoke = excessive oil burning, probably due to worn piston rings or worn valve guides and valve seals.

Black smoke = excessive fuel from running rich or a flooding condition.

White/gray smoke with a sweet smell = coolant getting into combustion chamber.
