What was the standard for ladies' fashion in the 1880s?

In the 1880's, women were wearing long gowns or skirts that showed no hint of ankle or leg, with tightly laced corsets underneath to create a fashionable hourglass silhouette. Hair was generally long and worn pinned up on top of the head.
