How do you give hints about a gift?

Hand them the gift, say that you hope they like it, and give them a hug or some gesture of affection. If it's a holiday, include a holiday greeting. If you're giving a gift just because, tell the receiver why exactly you got them a gift - if it reminded you of them, or you thought they needed it, or whatever the reason might be.
