Why is the nickname queen bee used by women?

"Queen bee" suggests the leader of the pack - the "head" of the group. it is a sort of slang term, ripped off from the biological meaning of an actual "queen bee".

this term, can be used in a negative light, by being used to describe a big headed bossy leader - or somebody with many followers.

however, this term can be used completely innocently - it is simply a way of talking about the leader of a group. the type of group depends on the situation - high school, college, work place or even at home.

it is an animal term used to present human characteristics..
