What haunted Ryan buell as a child?

From what i've read (I can't remember where thought) He was going to bed when he saw a man in his doorway. It oculd be his parents because his dad was somewhere else and his mother was already in bed. The man he saw and a slighltly wide head and a large grin. he scrreame . his mom came and was stressed out... When she left he looked away from the doorway to the floor. And then the thing he saw from the door came rising from the floor and he screamed again and got in trouble....Sorry this isn't very descriptive. I can't remember where I read it from....
