The easiest way is to look on line for a template for a SWOT analysis. Fill this out as best as possible as it will help identify Strength's, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to any new venture; it also forms the basis to any formal business plan or proposal that you may require.

Draft a Mission Statement, this will help you identify the clients, services/ products and levels of service you expect to deliver - it will help focus your plan and enable you to identify some of the costs (i.e. quality and qualifications of staff, standard of products that you sell or quality of equipment and materials that you will use).

A business plan may be required if you were looking for a loan or start-up capital. In conjunction with this conduct some market research in the area and try to identify what overheads you would have. i.e. suitable land, rental, costs of water and electricity, local laws and regulations, cost of registering the company, advertising etc.

Also remember that you have to distinguish yourself from your competitor's!

Any sound business is based on good, rock hard planning!
