Neon makes up about 15 parts per million of Earth's atmosphere. Neon is obtained from the atmosphere by a process called fractional distillation. Air is cooled until it liquefies. A tiny fraction of the air is neon, which boils off at -246.08°C, and is then collected when the gas vapor condenses into a liquid as it warms.
