Another opinion from our community:
By all means use critical thinking. Even Christians do not encourage "blind faith," or believing without critically knowing why or how. Most Christians become Christians from using logic and applying reasoned analysis to the evidences of the faith. The early apostles told Christians to arm themselves with apologia or logic. So, the Christian and non Christian alike should constantly exercise critical thinking, especially to such important assertations as the Biblical scripture. Furthermore, many truths of Biblical passages only come to light with a greater understanding of their context (like the culture of the author) and so many meanings of Biblical scripture absolutely require a critical thinking process. When one reads a religious text there are many facts we must understand. The entire texts are not written by one single person, rather by many individuals over a long period of time.In essence we must accept that there could be individual influence involved while rewriting and this is common even today. Secondly, when over aperiod of time various revisions are made corruption of the original is possible, because of localising or the economic differences. What one can do in such a situation is, to accept the basic tenets climatised for the contemporory living and mould it to our convenience. You must be aware, internet was not there when bible was written- so there is no mention of it in the texture.Does it mean christians should not use it for, Bible do not advise use of internet? As long as we read scriptures with understanding of these, we need not quarrel.
