The Provisional Parliament of independent India was formed after the country gained independence on August 15, 1947. It consisted of members from the existing Central Legislative Assembly and the Council of States, which were previously part of British India. This body played a crucial role in framing the Constitution of India, which was adopted on January 26, 1950. The Provisional Parliament operated until the first general elections were held in 1951-52, leading to the establishment of a fully elected Parliament.
