Why do you need to wear vest to take an x ray but not at the checking point at air port?

The X ray for medical investigations requires a higher frequency and longer duration of exposure to penetrate the internal organs of the body and the lead vest is used as a protective barrier .In air port security check the X ray is to scan momentarily any metal object on the surface and requires a low intensity x ray charge and is quite harmless.
