There are many different species of cockatoo, and some are endangered, while others are quite common.
Endangered species of cockatoos include:
- Black cockatoo
- Glossy black cockatoo (although it is listed as endangered federally, this is not uniform throughout Australia's states)
- Red-tailed black cockatoo (also listed as endangered federally, but not uniform throughout Australia's states)
- Red-vented or Philippine Cockatoo - not found in Australia
- Yellow-crested cockatoo, also known as Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, but quite different from the common Sulphur crested cockatoo - not found in Australia
- Black Palm cockatoo - not found in Australia
- Moluccan cockatoo, or Salmon-crested cockatoo - not found in Australia
