Where did sir Walter Raleigh get married?

Nobody knows, as he and his wife Elizabeth Elizabeth Throckmorton married in secret in 1591. Elizabeth was one of Queen Elizabeth 1st's ladies-in-waiting, and as such could not marry without the Queen's special permission.

When she discovered their secret wedding, the Queen had the couple imprisoned in the Tower of London, although Raleigh was released after only a month and his wife about 7 months later. They then went to live on Raleigh's family estate at Sherborne Castle in Devon.

The Queen expected them to sue for Royal Pardon, but they failed to do so and as a result, were out of favour with her for the next five years.
