Why they celebrate Independence day Philippines?

Independence is a good thing and worth celebrating.

In 1964, the Philippine government changed Independence Day from July 4, the date in 1946 when they received their independence from the United States, to June 12, the date in 1898 when they declared their independence from Spain.
