How do political parties try and shape laws and policies?

Political leaders either support the government or oppose it, so accordingly they try to show either the advantages of a particular thing for the common people or its disadvantages.Political party leaders speak influential.They present information in such a way that in general common people are convinced. They use different ways for propagating their ideas such as meetings, speeches, processions, manifestos pamphlets etc.
