What determines how many pages a printer can print per minute?

Pages printed per minute depends on how much of each page is covered in text or graphics. Colour printing graphics with an inkjet is slower than mono (one colour - black) printing text. Printer makers' may state the times in their printer specifications, but the stats may prove rather optimistic!
