Why do most vehicle use multi cylinder engines?

You can only get so much power out of a single cylinder engine. No single cylinder engine would be powerful enough to move a heavy car which typically weighs over 3.500 pounds. It takes multi cylinders to be able to produce the power necessary to move a heavy vehicle with passengers aboard.
