Why did the US move from neutrality to engagement in world war 1?

As usual, a big decision like this would involve many factors. One primary one is that the war was taking a long time and effecting the world economy. This would have put more pressure on the US economy and impacted the cost of products. However the one thing that upset the citizens and politicians was the sinking of the Lusitania, that killed many innocent Americans.
