Who did Victoria marry and why?

Queen Victoria was already queen of the United Kingdom when she married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840.

Her daughter, born later that year, was also named Victoria (Princess Royal), and married Crown Prince Frederick of Prussia on January 25, 1858. Although Frederick was only German Emperor for 3 months in 1888, their first son became Kaiser Wilhelm II.
