Who aids Tim and his father in their time of need in My Brother Sam is Dead?

I guess that depends on what time of need you are referring to, but if you mean in Chapter 7 where Sam and His father are stopped by the cattle thieves and they start beating his father... the beating is stopped by Loyalists who happen by and help them get safely to New Salem.
