What do people gain by lying to friends?

Many people lie for many different reasons it can be because their mad at something or there's something going on in thief life so they take it out on you. They also might lie to u to save your feelings because they don't want to hurt you or make u feel bad. Also sometimes people lie to save themselves because they no hey did something wrong and they don't want to admit it cause you'll be mad at you.
