Why was tennis named tennis?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, tennis "apparently" got its name from the Old French Word tenez meaning "receive," reportedly called out by the server to his opponent before a serve. (At that era the 'z' of "tenez" would have been pronounced, not silent as in modern French.)
