Why is it important to identify selection criteria before developing interview questions?

Simply speaking if you dont know why your looking for in an applicant your not going to find the best people for the role. The Job role will have specific a specific skills base, an interviewer needs to know these before they can ask or look for these in the interview period. Missing the criteria means a square peg in a round hole scenario and taking the wrong people on is a very, very costly exercise
