Why did cities emerge?

Cities emerged as a result of agricultural surplus, which allowed for population growth and the establishment of permanent settlements. As farming techniques improved, communities could support larger groups, leading to specialization of labor and trade. Additionally, geographical factors, such as access to water and fertile land, facilitated the development of urban centers. Over time, these hubs became centers of culture, commerce, and governance.
