Kootenai is a nickname! It is an English pronunciation of a Blackfoot name for the tribe. Their own name for themselves is: Ktunaxa. It is pronounced tu-na-ha with a barely heard "K" sound at the start. They live in 8 or so communities in Canada and the US.
