Check voltage at terminals in motor. 230v- 2 hot legs? Shut off power.
Verify shaft turns by rotating by hand.
Check continuity to switch contacts and to start capacitor.
Short out then test start capacitor.
Start switch on motor can have dirty or pitted points. You can file them smooth with a very small file. Verify switch opens completely when centrifugal weight swings by operating it by hand. Are points still stuck together? Do they come back into full contact when switch is let go?
Hayward uses AO Smith motors. You didn't mention single or 2 speed, voltage, or symptoms of your problem. I could walk you through any issues with it at all, but alot of it is available on line under 'AO Smith motor troubleshooting'.
Good luck.
