Who is the President of the Dominican Republic?

Danilo Medina Sánchez is the President of the Dominican Republic. Medina became the President on 2012 August 16. Presidential terms in the Dominican Republic, as of 1970, always start and end on August 16, the day of the Restoration of the Republic, a national holiday.

The constitution was recently (2010) re-amended to again forbid the immediate re-election of a president. As such, Medina's term will end on 2016 August 16. Medina was twice previously Secretary of State, from 1996 August 16 to 1999 August 16, and again from 2004 August 16 to 2006 November 8.
